A young business dedicated to healthy eating
Our business was founded in 1986. Our aim is to process the huge amount of sweet whey by separating the lactose and the whey protein. Whey is a by-product of hard cheese and semi-hard cheese production.
The business‘central location south of Hanover allows us to cover as catchment area all of Northern Germany from the Isle of Rügen, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony to Hesse and Saxony.
We are working 363 days a year on three different production lines. Each production line has its dedicated team of workers who are working in three shifts per day every day of the week.
This allows us to produce freshly and to an exceptional standard of quality. One production line is working on processing lactose, the other on processing whey proteins and the third on processing KPK.
Whey protein is a valuable protein in terms of nutritional physiology and has a high demand in many different areas: the food industry, the animal food industry and the pharmaceutical industry.
Lactose is a low sweetener and has no flavour of its own; therefore it is suitable to be used as a carrier and filler in the food and pharmaceutical industry.
At the moment we are processing almost 1000000t of whey every year.
Our buildings are originating from the 60s and 70s and were successively modernised to meet our high quality standards.
Our business is situated on 10.000m2 of land. The latest expansion of business is the establishment of Storage 4 in 2013.
The raw material sweet whey is delivered by road tankers and stored in isolated tanks. Through heating and ultra-filtration the protein is then separated from the sweet whey.
After the membrane filtration the sweet whey is separated in retentates and permeates. The whey protein, won out of the retentate, is spray dried.
Permeate is the basis of lactose production. Lactose is crystallised and dried. All products are packed under sterilised atmosphere either in paper backs, big bags or special trucks and then taken to our clients.
We are also able to deliver our products in liquid form to our customers.
Additionally we are fermenting and delivering KPK which is also used in the food industry.
We at Biolac GmbH & Co.KG have an integrated management system with specialisation in quality assurance, food safety, environment protection and energy efficiency.
Certifications are in place for ISO 9001, IFS, GMP+, Q-Charta, Halal and Kosher.
We are dedicated to make sure to meet our high standards of quality and have detailed concept/risk assessments for hygiene in place. We have separated the workplace in different hygienic areas ranging from „no risk“ over „low risk“ to „high risk“.
